TO ADD PROMOTIONS
1. From the Control Panel, click on ‘Alerts Admin’ under the Content heading on the left hand side
2. Select ‘Add Promotion’ in the top right corner to create a new piece of content.
3. Enter all information:
a. Title to be displayed in your Promotional Portlet
b. Category, ensure you select “Promotion” from the drop down list
c. Also ensure the tick box Active is ticked
d. If you tick the Expired box, content will not be visible
e. You can enter a specific start and end date to set the content to expire at a certain date. By default the content expires after seven days and the start date is set to the date the Promotion was set up.
f. Upload an image to be displayed. Click Browse and locate the image on your computer
Important: Note that image height must be consistent with each promotional item.
g. Use Image needs to be ticket if you want to display an image
h. In the Description text edit field, you can enter the text that will be displayed in the promotion. You can style the text by using the Style drop down menu to select a heading and you can change font sizes and use colours for fonts. You can also create links to link to pages within the text
i. Another option: if the entire promotion is to be an image, simply insert the image in the WYSIWYG as you would if you were adding text.
4. When finished click Save and Approve
5. Then click Back to Guest on top right, to view the Alerts Promotional Portlet on the website
TO ADD THE ALERTS PROMOTIONS PORTLET TO THE SITE
1. Hover over Administrator Dock, select Add Portlet.
2. Under ‘Alerts’ select Alerts Promotion Portlet and drag onto the page into desired location.
3. Once the Alerts Promotions Portlet is visible on page you have to set the preferences in order to display the content correctly.
4. Select the “Preferences” button, you find it by pressing the icon.
5. Set preferences.
6. Important: You need to select from the drop down menu “Category of Alerts to display” item “Promotion”.
You can also adjust:
- Interval: time each promotion will be visible on screen before the next promotion
- Max Alerts: Maximum number of different promotions shown within the portlet
- Height of the Promotions Portlet. By default, this is 205px. Should be the height of the pictures.
TO EXPIRE PROMOTIONS
1. From the Control Panel, click on ‘Alerts Admin’ under the Content heading on the left hand side.
2. Find the item to expire, and click on the green clock.
3. The clock will turn red, which means the item is expired
TO ADD A SECOND PROMOTIONS PORTLET
A new category must be made in order to display a new set of promotions.
1. In the Control Panel, click on 'Alerts Admin'
2. In the top panel, click on 'Categories', this displays all current categories
3. In the top right hand corner, click 'Add Category'
4. Create a new category, ensuring 'Active' is ticked.
5. Click 'Save Category'
6. Back on the live site, add the new promotional portlet
7. Once the new portlet is added, ensure that in 'Preferences' the category option is set to the one just created.
8. Follow the same steps above to use the new promotions portlet.
